Are power banks allowed on Qatar Airways?

Yes, within these limits. This guide covers ordinary standalone power banks on flights operated by Qatar Airways.

Calculate from your label

20,000 mAh or 30,000 mAh?

At 3.7 V, 20,000 mAh is 74 Wh; 30,000 mAh is 111 Wh. Use your bank’s printed Wh, or its actual nominal cell voltage. A USB output rating such as 5 V is a different number. Likewise, 65 W describes charging power, not stored Wh.

Illustrative calculations, not product approvals. A 26,800 mAh bank can fall on either side of 100 Wh depending on its nominal voltage. Do not round down. Count, condition, label and route requirements still apply.

Carrying it and using it are different

  • Cabin baggage: protect terminals and follow crew storage instructions
  • Charging a device from it: allowed in non-critical phases, under your supervision
  • Charging it from seat power: not allowed
  • Overhead bin: not stated our reading
  • Checked bag: not allowed

Qatar permits charging a personal device in non-critical flight phases under direct supervision. Recharging the power bank itself is prohibited at every phase. Follow crew instructions.

Protect each bank against short circuits. While it charges a device, keep it out of bags and overhead bins. That charging condition does not establish a blanket overhead-storage ban; ask the crew where to keep it.

Before you fly

Can I bring two 20,000 mAh power banks?

At 3.7 V, each is 74 Wh. Check each bank individually; 100 Wh is not a combined allowance to divide between them. Two such banks meet the published capacity and count limits, subject to the other conditions above.

Can I get approval for a 100–160 Wh power bank?

No for ordinary standalone power banks. Qatar separately permits some batteries removed from smart luggage under different count and approval conditions. That exception does not give a regular 130 Wh power bank permission to travel.

Read the airline’s power-bank section ↗

What if my cabin bag is checked at the gate?

Remove the power banks before the bag goes into the hold; keep them with you in the cabin, protected against short circuits. Tell staff if a bank has already gone into a checked bag.

This also follows FAA gate-check guidance ↗ (US guidance); the airline’s cabin-only rule above applies to this page.

What if I connect to another airline?

Practical check: use the airline shown as “operated by” for each segment, including the return trip. Add every flight to the checker; one airline’s permission does not cover another airline or every departure airport.

Check the official wording

Power banks exceeding 100 Watt-hours are no longer allowed in passenger baggage.
